how to make toddler pants from a t-shirt

Stevie had a shirt from his roaring fun early 20's that he had been hanging onto for sentimental value.

Almost too tattered to wear.

but how could he throw it away? he hesitated, 

holding it over the box destined for salvation army..

SO I figured, I'll make it into something else!

Pants. For Attie.

Cuz that's the thing I know how to sew the best...

This is my pants pattern.  cut out from another pattern, using christmas wrapping paper!

Firstly, cut out two of this pattern.

I cut out 4 because I lined them with white cotton jersey.

I cut and flipped the top so there'd be a white band.
Sew that back up, press seams.

Sew the length each of the pant legs,

then flip one inside out,

and and place one leg inside the other leg,

right sides together.

Sew from crotch to top on either side.

then fold the top down leaving plenty of space for the elastic you will use,

sew almost all around, leaving a few inches to insert the elastic.
Put a safety pin on the end of the elastic and string it through.
sew the elastic ends together close up the hole.

I made a pocket (which gets sewn on before any leg sewing)

finish the bottom with a blind stitch - if you want a nice edge for folding up the bottom.

cut off all the stray thread ends,

  et voila!

Little hipster, daddy shirt pants!

They make her dance and move so fast I couldn't even get a good pic!

Toque from felted sweater

 

first project knocked off in my new sewing room!!

I'll post the pattern pieces soon. 

Twas quite simple.  

took about 30 minutes.  

New Sewing Room for Me!

Here's the first time in my life that I've had all my fabric, sewing machine, 

sewing gear in ONE room!!!  

How exciting!

 Before this, I had everything in different spots all over the house.  

It just made it harder to get going on sewing.

 

Now...

I have 2 quilts to get going on.  

A quilt for Atlin

and a quilt for a very small bean.

Who is swimming at the moment!!

Emmett's quilt- a collaborative quilt

my sister just had a baby and I/We recently had the joy of presenting him with a quilt put together by many loving hands!

When she was about 4 months preggers, I put the word out to all the aunties, grandmas, friends asking if they'd like to make a quilt square for a quilt.   I was amazed at the response! Especially since a lot of them hadn't done much sewing.

I ended up with 12 wonderfully creative squares!!

how to make a DOLL'S shirt from adult t-shirt

 Attie has found a new best friend... Murial Moss "went on a vacation" (who knows where)                 

                so , Here's Bubbles!

 

problem is, Bubbles had no shirt. 

so I made a quick shirt for her out of old t-shirts.  Tee shirt material is good because it is stretchy.

Most of Attie's dolls have huge heads and bodies to fit the shirt over, 

so stretchy is better than bustin' stitches when putting on and taking off!

Here's how:  

Find the part of the shirt that you like the most for the main body of the shirt.

Cut out two identical pieces this shape. 

Estimate the size, or cut big at first and use the doll to correct the size.

 I sewed a little patch on the back of the shirt (right)

 Right sides together, sew the sides of the shirt.

cut out sleeves from another part of the shirt.  

Use a part where there is a fold, like the top of the sleeve or the side of the shirt

Sew the bottom of the sleeve, right sides together.

 Sew sleeves on starting from the arm pit up... and back around

 Sew the other one on.

Here's what you might have now, inside out.

I re-inforced the top of the sleeves with some back n forth sewing action.

 et, Voila.

Now try it on the doll and HOPe it fits!!

a toddler dress from an adult shirt

my friend got some shirts made with her artwork on them.
I took one for myself and a couple extra to make our daughters some little sundresses!
(our babies are 2 months apart)

pretty simple.
I just copied a dress that fits her,
and it was 3 seams to sew up.
then i added a brown bottom strip.

this is far too cute.
