Cross Canada trip 2008

Here's a little story to go with a couple journal entries.
I sure wished there were more journal entries like these along the way,
but I guess I was just taking it all in.
We drove from Chilliwack, BC to PEI
almost 6,000 kms!
it was fun!

Steve had cut off his dreads a bit before and decided to leave one in each province along the way!
That's what that little picture of the river is about.
Then we stopped and wwoofed a bit at a farm I go to from time to time.

I made this map of Eastern Canada to figure out this country AND
to make Ontario not seem SOOooo long.

Cuz its basically the size of 3 regular Canadian Provinces.

this was taken in Osoyoos, BC - in the Okanagan.
One of 2 Canadian towns with 4 "O"'s in it.
The other being Oromocto, NB which was our destination.

The strawbale house at the wwoof farm in Greenwood, BC
(they still graciously take wwoofers if you are ever on the #3 in South BC!)

 Falcon Lake, MB
Just starting to turn in to Boreal

Lake Superior from the Terry fox Statue

What an amazing person he was.

Earth floor beauty, Somewhere in Northern Ontario.

 T Dot.
(Toronto)

We made it to PEI!!  This is Cavendish Beach.
What a Beautyful place.

 Picnic lunch in Charlottetown, PEI.
We had a food suitcase for a picnic set!

Our pups were with us for part of the way!
(Rest in Peace, my girl Freedom)

Us, Before children!!
It was a fun trip.

Juan de Fuca - xmas 2010

I was thinking about last year's Christmas trip and upon looking, realized that I didn't post at all about it!

We had a glorious time with Stevie's family in Chilliwack!

Then we went to Vancouver Island.

Where everything in nature is huge.  Huge trees, huge beach, huge ocean...
Huge Love.

Atlin playin' with some bull kelp.

We spent a really nice day on the trails on the Southwest side of Vancouver Island.
The Juan de Fuca trails.  They are good for day trips because there are a lot of hike in beaches.

This particular beach is Sombrio Beach.

There had been a small community of people living/squatting out there very happily... until the ones in charge decided thats ENOUGH happiness.  and they told them to leave, chainsawed their homes in half and burned them.  here's the link to the documentary .  Sad.

there's still a swing back in the bush.
and their spirits are there too.
If you see any redhead girls working in Port Renfrew, with surfboards on their car, thats them!

my Drift wood collection.
A lot of these are still a part of Atlin's toys! They are used as percussion instruments.
Two hardy chunks of driftwood have a really good sound actually!

Happyest daddy.

He spent a lot of time out here before we met.
He worked on fishing boats all around Van. Island so he's connected to that area.

Littel Attie. bein' an sea babe

I have spent some good time on these beaches. the more the merrier!

I really had moments just watching and listening to the full sound and feeling of the ocean waves.
It is so powerful.
I could spend hours and hours just watching and listening.

The ocean gives meaning to the yogic breath/meditation:  Ujjayi breath

It is a great meditation. and using during asanas creates heat and groundedness.

I can still smell the salty air, feel the humidity.  soft skin.

THis is what she thought of that day trip to the Juan de Fuca!  loved it.

BC Ferrys is a wonderful place to spend time and dream.

Its nice to think:  the ocean is turning RIGHT now...

as we breath.

you like-a da beanziz

Blanching of the beanziz night.

wash and cut
it was 10:06 as you can see. in the pm.

blanche for 2 minutes then quickly dunk in cold water...
now its 10:15

i did this while listening to Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, on DVD. Unfortunately, the only reading i have time for nowadays is to have someone read to me! works fine. the woman has a nice voice.

Just read the part where she was talking about how every city has a word. A word that its inhabitants think about often.

She said that, to her New York's word was: achieve.
and Rome's word was: sex
I think Rome's not the only city who's word is 'Sex'...
what would your city/town's word be?

lets think... sometimes i find it easier to make 2 or more words:

Dawson City, YT: exist how you are
Whitehorse, YT: active winter
Vancouver: mountain hip
Saskatoon: flow cavort
Winnnipeg: middle artsy
Canora, SK: Perogy flats

homework for you:
1. think of a word or phrase for your town/city/area
2. think of a word for yourself...

oh here's a story about beanziz.
told to my by a friend in whitehorse:

him and his buddys, while travelling in Mexico ended up getting invited to a part at the end of the night. turned out to be a bunch of burly, rough lookin, biker type mexicans. He was feeling quite out of place there and maybe wondering if they should be there at all.
Got in a conversation with one of the mexican guys over some beers and asked him what he thought about the really white canadians hanging out drinking with them.
This is what the burly Mexican man said:
"I come from a woman, you come from a Woman, I like tha beanziz, you like-a tha beanziz, We Are the same! "

doesn't that just sum it all up...
beautiful.
thanx for the story, D#2.
