The Artist's Way (book)

I am reading The Artist's way by Julia Cameron.

"A spiritual Path to Higher Creativity"

"A course in discovering and recovering your creative self"

I've wanted to read this book for quite a while now, then I stumbled upon someone wanting to read it with a group of people and I jumped on it.

"There are 2 pivotal tools in creative self recovery. the morning pages and the artist's date.

Morning pages is a wonderful idea that I think would help ANYBODY with all kinds of life healing journeys. It goes like this. Write 3 pages of mind blabberings. just whatever you are thinking...

like this: "... i just put my baby to sleep and it took 1/2 hour this time! I want to do the laundry now but the water's turned off cuz a water maine has collapsed! we went to weyburn today to the thrift shop and i bought shoes for attie... bla bla bla..."
No one reads these pages - not even you, for the first 6 months anyways.

it really gets all those little thoughts out of your main brain track. Releases the details that take up space or are stressful. such a great tool.

I have used this very same journaling tool at times when I have been very Angry or sad or confused. lots of swear words! and then rip it up and throw it away or better yet - burn it!

release
the
feelings

I have been writing them regularly for about 1-2 weeks now and I am starting to really enjoy it. The other day I wrote something to the effect that It is like having a conversation with someone who fully understands every word you say and is listening to you %110 for real. and cares so so much about every tiny thing you have to say!

who doesn't want to talk to someone like that?!

my morning pages usually come out in the evening... that is just the rhythm of my days

very good book so far!
Could possibly be life changing.

remember this??? art

oh - I think its worth a second post. don't you??

Tanya Davis' song and Andrea Dorfman's filming/art

"Why should we all use our creative power?
....Because there is nothing that makes
people so generous, joyful, lively, bold
and compassionate. So indifferent to
fighting and the accumulation of objects
and money"

Hi Erin,
Shannon here from the Artist's Way group!
I've barely begun the book, and my boys aren't babies anymore so I have no excuse, lol. I've written "morning pages" for years though I guess I didn't know that's what I was doing. I have free mornings now with one kid in preschool and one in 2nd grade, so that is nice.
I'm enjoying your blog, it seems we have a lot of common interests.
See you around!
